Police launch investigation after a teenager was assaulted in Newcastle
The 16-year-old boy is believed to have been stabbed on Wednesday
Detectives have launched an investigation after a teenager was assaulted in the west end of Newcastle.
Around 5pm on Wednesday police received a report that a 16-year-old boy had been assaulted on Ladykirk Road near to the junction of the West Road.
It has been reported that a number of males, believed to be known to the victim, had attacked him with a bladed article.
Emergency services attended the scene and the 16-year-old was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
An investigation was launched and four teenagers – aged between 15 and 17 – have been arrested. They have since been released on bail.
Now detectives are appealing for any witnesses to the assault, or anyone with information that may assist their enquiries, to come forward.
Detective Chief inspector Angela Hufton, of Northumbria Police, said:
“We are treating this as an isolated incident between people who are known to each other.
“However, we do believe a bladed article has been used and we are treating this attack very seriously.
“We understand that any assault of this nature is likely to cause concern in the community but we have taken swift action and four people have been arrested.
“We hope this does offer some reassurance to residents in the area and we will continue to conduct visible patrols in the area of Ladykirk Road.
“Our enquiries will continue but now we are asking anyone with information about this assault to come forward and contact police.”
Anyone with information, particularly anyone who was driving in the area at the time and may have dash-cam footage, is asked to report it online at the Northumbria Police website quoting log 775 13/01/21.
