Police have charged a man following a murder investigation in Newcastle
It follows the death of Jason Lord, 50, in Kenton earlier this month
Officers investigating the death of a man in Kenton have today (Tuesday) charged a suspect with murder.
Shortly after 8.20pm on January 20, officers were alerted by the ambulance service following a report of concern for the welfare of a man in the Brigham Avenue area.
Officers attended the scene and found Jason Lord, 50, of Newcastle, who had suffered facial injuries consistent with having been assaulted.
He was sadly confirmed as deceased at the scene. Specially-trained family liaison officers are continuing to offer Jason’s family support at this difficult time.
A 42-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder.
Steven Walton, of the Crossway, Kenton, Newcastle, has now been charged with murder.
He has been remanded into custody and is due to appear before magistrates in Newcastle tomorrow.

“We will continue to offer them any support they need and keep asking that their privacy is respected by everyone at this awful time.
“I would like to thank the team of officers who have been working tirelessly on this tragic case, as well as everyone who has come forward with information to assist our enquiries.
“I would ask that everyone continues to avoid any speculation – both out in the community and on social media – that could jeopardise the live legal proceedings.”
