Police are investigating the death of a Blyth woman after she died in hospital last week.

Leanne Patterson, 36, who lived in the Blyth area, is understood to have been assaulted in the Princess Louise Road area of Blyth at around 1.45pm on Thursday, March 29.

Leanne was admitted to hospital a number of days later but her condition deteriorated and she sadly died last Wednesday.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding Leanne’s death is ongoing and police are now appealing for help from the public.

Officers are particularly interested in speaking to any witnesses who may have been in the Princess Louise Road area at the time of the assault on March 29.

Five men and one woman were arrested in connection with the incident but they have been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

Specially trained officers are working with the family to keep them updated through this difficult time.
