Police investigating an assault which left a man with a broken jaw have issued an appeal for witnesses.

It was reported that, between midnight and 5am on May 5, a 47-year-old man had been leaving Switch nightclub in Newcastle city centre, when he was approached by a man he did not know, who has then punched him and left the scene.

The victim suffered swelling and bruising to the left cheek and was taken to hospital where it was later established he had broken his jaw.

An investigation was launched and officers from Northumbria Police have already carried out a number of enquiries, including a review of CCTV.

Today (Monday 4th July) they have issued a description of two males who were in the area at the time and could have information which can assist.

They are both described as white males, around 5ft 10in tall and thought to be between 18 and 21 years old.

One had very short, curly blond hair and was wearing a white T-shirt with a large gold necklace. The other had short brown hair.

The men, anyone who knows them, or anyone with information is asked to contact police using the Tell us Something page on our website quoting crime reference 053939H/22.
