Emergency services, including a bomb disposal squad and firefighters, were called to the property on Tennyson Terrace at around 1.30pm on Monday, December 25th.

The body of 38-year-old Jillian Grant, who was blind and looked after by carers, was later discovered after police questioned arson suspect Mark Smith.

Smith, of Tennyson Terrace, was arrested after an alleged arson early Christmas Day morning in Heaton and last night the 41-year-old was charged with murder and attempted murder.
