North East App Aims To Crack Social Media Addiction
Three quarters of teenagers in the UK say they couldn't last a single day without using social media.
Three quarters of teenagers in the UK say they couldn't last a single day without using social media.
Research by Avios found most teenagers spend around two hours a day on sites like Facebook and Twitter.
One in seven told a survey they couldn't cope for one hour.
A North East entrepreneur thinks he may have the solution to get more people off social media.
Hayden Bailey created Orca Mobile, an app which encourages people to meet face-to-face rather than talking online.
It lets people advertise local activities in the area, in the hope of getting people to meet in person.
The firm, who has three members of staff, will focus on the North East at first, but Hayden's hopeful that it will be rolled out across the UK.
It has secured £32,000 in seed funding from Rivers Capital Partners in Newcastle.
Hayden said: "You'll get to a weekend and you'll want to go out but then you'll think 'who do I have to go out with?'
"We think we're staying connected with our friends through social media, but actually we're falling out of touch.
"We actually using the thing that's driving people away from each other to draw them back in.
"Making them feel a lot happier, a lot better in themselves, a lot more confident, a lot more ready for job interviews."
