Newcastle women have more debt than any others in the UK

New figures from debt advisors PayPlan have revealed Newcastle is the city with the largest proportion of women in debt in the UK.

According to the data 878 people from Newcastle used the PayPlan service throughout 2015, with an average debt of more than £16,000.

The average age of those seeking debt help in Newcastle was 43, with 55% of those surveyed being women (the national average is 50%).

The top 3 female dominant ‘in debt’ areas in the UK:

  1. Newcastle = 55% female (avg debt £16, 744) 2. Birmingham = 54% female (avg debt £16,464) 3. Bristol = 52% female (avg debt £16,671)

These statistics were released as Payplan announced the launch of its “Diagnose your Debt” tool, designed to help people, struggling with debt issues, to determine the best course of action to get their finances back on track.

Money advice consultant Jane Clack, from Payplan, said:

“Although these results show that the UK still has a problem with debt, more and more people are taking the brave and important step of facing up to the issue and seeking professional help.
