Newcastle has been voted as one of the best cities to raise a family in the UK according to new data from MoneySuperMarket’s “Best Family Cities Index”.

The data ranked Newcastle second out of 35 UK cities, taking into consideration six key factors that impact family life, including local school rankings, access to green space, likelihood of burglary, house prices, job opportunities and average salary – matching year-on-year data to analyse movements in the index.

Newcastle grabbed second place thanks to strong results, including an improved crime rate, an increase in quality schools in the area, and a rise in disposable income. It was a reduction in job availability that saw the northern city just miss out top spot.

The city also managed to edge out neighbours and close rivals Sunderland who finished just outside the top five in sixth.

The cities that made up the top 5 are as follows…

  1. Bath

2. Newcastle

  1. Wolverhampton
  1. Manchester
  1. Swansea

The Family Living Index was created to guide parents – or soon to be parents – looking to futureproof their next move and guide them into selecting the best location to raise a family.
