A Newcastle mam is calling on parents across the region to join her in her fight to make school uniforms cheaper.
A Newcastle mam is calling on parents across the region to join her in her fight to make school uniforms cheaper.
Ashleigh Swan has set up a petition so that more families can get their kids' uniforms from the high street or supermarkets, which works out a lot cheaper than buying directly from a school.
It's after she found that - on average - parents spend ÂŁ316 a year for a uniform at secondary school and ÂŁ251 at primary school.
Ashleigh told Metro Radio schools should be doing more to help.
"I do think the schools realise how hard people are finding buying the school uniform but I think they are just brushing it off," she said.
"They need to open their eyes. Not everyone is on a high wage, not everybody is entitled to a government grant and there are parents out there who are struggling.
"This is why I have decided to take action and start my very own petition on behalf of parents across the country.
"If you agree that the price of uniforms are unreasonable then join me on my mission to get this issue acknowledged by parliament."
