A group of North East theatre makers are ready to head North of the Border with their new play - as they gear up for the Edinburgh Fringe festival

Head Girl is the first play from local company Girl Next Door - which had it's debut at the Central bar in Gateshead earlier this year.

The team are taking it to two venues in Edinburgh this month - The Space on the North Bridge - Fife Theatre until Saturday and then The Space on the Mile - Space Two from then until the 20th of August.

Rosie Bowden is from Girl Next Door, and tells us it's a family friendly, uplifting story;

"There's a real 'believe in yourself' feel which comes from the show,

"It's a show which is all about - you might not always get what you want - you might have this dream, and it might not be all that it's made out to be,

"And it's really about appreciating the people around you and appreciating the journey."

Rosie also tells us how important it is for theatre to be accessible for everyone, no matter the cost - with the performances at the Edinburgh shows staying below £10 a ticket.

She explains it's the same attitude they've had from the start of the show:

"It was all done through fundraising, and the kindness of others - at a fringe theatre in Gateshead above a pub!

"Theatre should be anywhere and for everyone, and made in the quickest way you can!

"It doesn't always have to be so polished and beautiful with lots of money thrown at it, because frankly that's not the situation for so many people."
