Police are investigating reports of an assault in Newcastle - which saw a man having part of his ear bitten off.

Shortly before 8pm on Saturday, December 2, police received a report that a man had been assaulted in Popworld, in the Bigg Market area of the city centre.

It was reported that the victim, a man in his 30s, was at the bar in the venue when he was approached by another man.

The offender began an argument with the victim before pushing him, biting a chunk of his left ear lobe and then punching him.

The offender then left the scene.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment of his injuries and later discharged.

An investigation has been launched by officers into the report and today (Thursday) they have released images of a man they would like to speak to in connection with the incident.

The man was in the area at the time the assault is reported to have taken place and officers believe he may be able to help them with their enquiries.
