Emergency services remain at the scene of a huge blaze in Newcastle this morning (Thur 29th June).

A derelict former club on Carliol Square went up in flames just before 7pm last night (Wed 28th June)

At it's peak 30 firefighters tackled the blaze which took around 3 hours to get fully under control.

It casued traffic chaos as the Central Motorway north and southbound had to be closed whilst crews dealt with the scene.

This morning there may be some traffic issues as the A167(M) remains closed under the Swan House Roundabout.

There's no word on any cause as of yet and that may take some time as investigators will need to make sure the building is structurally safe before starting their work.

People gathered nearby to watch on, here's some pics and videos from the blaze last night.
