A Newcastle scientist is swapping the lab for the kitchen as she launches a unique bakery.

Yasmin Peacock is a Medical Information scientist by day - helping treat patients who have overdosed on drugs at the RVI.

But by night she's the creator of cupcake jars - which she's selling at the Quayside market, along with a variety of other homemade treats.

It all started with a Facebook post of a cheesecake that looked so good - she started getting requests. Now she’s packing orders for wedding cakes, Christmas cakes and everything in between.

Now Yasmin is working both sides – keeping up with her bakery orders for Peacock Puds when not working at the hospital, though she tells us some of her colleagues at the RVI have been unknowing taste-testers;

“They have unknowingly been doing taste tests for about 3 or 4 months,

“I’ve kind of been taking in a few different things that I’ve started trying out; none of them knew what was going on because I wanted an honest response,

“If they knew that I was setting up a business they might have been a bit polite.”

She tells us her job can be quite stressful and the baking is a way she can relax.

One of her bestsellers – Cupcake Jars – layers of cupcake, Nutella, buttercream and caramel in in Jam Jar.

Yasmin regularly sells out of the delicious jars on her stall on the Quayside Market every Sunday, but can also be found on Facebook if you’re not lucky enough to grab one from Yasmin in person!
