NE1, who represent Newcastle businesses, say they are optimistic that the year ahead will bring many opportunities for the city.

They tell us that they are excited about what Newcastle has to offer as the city continues to develop its landscape.

Stephen Patterson, Chief Executive of NE1, said: "2024 will be a hugely exciting year. I think we can all see the city's skyline changing before our eyes. Looking ahead, I think the primary rule for NE1 in supporting our businesses is actually helping with those growing pains as the city develops, as we dig up roads, as we make pavements wider, that comes at an inconvenience to businesses and their customers.

"We need Newcastle as the region's capital to be really firing on all cylinders. That work has been on-going at pace for some time now, but I think we have all the ingredients for us as a city and as a region to capitalise on these opportunities.

"We have quite simply a fantastic offer. Whilst other cities are talking about a 15-minute city, a city you can walk across, we've already got that. We're small but perfectly formed and I absolutely love that, so I think our job is to be passionate and ambitious about the city."
