Man arrested in connection with Newcastle murder
Steven George Coulter was found dead in Heaton
Police have arrested a man in connection with the murder of a man in Heaton last week.
At around 10.12am last Thursday morning police received a report of concern for male at an address on Heaton Hall Road in Heaton.
Emergency services attended the address where they found 59-year-old Steven George Coulter who had suffered a single stab wound to the chest.
Enquiries to establish the circumstances around Steven's death are ongoing but police have now arrested a 45-year-old man on suspicion of murder.
He remains in police custody but a team of detectives are continuing to appeal for anyone who may have seen or spoken to Steven.
It is believed he could have died a number of days before he was found and so detectives particularly want to speak to anyone who may have seen Steven on Saturday, July 8, or Sunday, July 9.
Senior investigating officer, Detective Inspector Dave English said: "Our investigation continues to progress and we have spoken to a number of people in relation to Steven's death.
"One man remains in custody who we have arrested on suspicion of murder but we still need anyone with information to get in touch.
"Steven was in his address for a number of days before he was found by emergency services and so we need to hear from anyone who has seen him since last weekend.
"Your information could be that last piece of the puzzle that allows us to find out the circumstances around Steven's death so please give us a call.
"Our officers will continue to have a visible presence in the area around the address today to reassure anyone who has any concerns.”
