Murder investigation launched in Newcastle

One man has been arrested.

Police in Newcaslte have launched a murder investigation after a man was found seriously injured.

Shortly after 6am yesterday, officers received a report of concern for the welfare of a man at an address on Dilston Road.

Emergency services attended the scene, where they found a man with injuries consistent with having been caused by a bladed article.

Sadly, despite the best efforts of paramedics, the man, aged 49, was pronounced as deceased.

His next of kin have been informed and are currently being supported by specialist officers at this difficult time.

An investigation was immediately launched and following initial enquiries, another man aged 38, believed to be known to the victim, was arrested on suspicion of murder. He remains in police custody at this time.

"At this early stage, we believe all parties were known to each other and that there is no wider risk to the public but we remain in the area offering reassurance to the community.

Anyone with any concerns should speak with us directly, and we'd also ask that anybody who saw anything in the early hours of yesterday morning, or anyone who has any information that may assist our investigation, comes forward.
