Mo Farah comes 4th in his final competitive race at the Great North Run

Four-time Olympic champion Sir Mo Farah has finished fourth in the final race of his career at the Great North Run.

The 40-year-old finished behind Ethiopia's Tamirat Tola in the infamous 13.1-mile race from Newcastle to South Shields.

After the race, the 6-time Great North Run winner ran back along the finishing straight to greet supporters who welcomed him with cheers, bell ringing and high fives.

  • Men's Elite Winner: Tamirat Tola - 59 minutes, 58 seconds
  • Women's Elite Winner: Peres Jepchirchir - 1 hour, 6 minutes, 45 seconds
  • Men's Elite Wheelchair Winner: Daniel Sidbury - 42 minutes, 48 seconds
  • Women's Elite Wheelchair Winner: Samantha Kinghorn - 49 minutes, 21 seconds
