Police are urgently trying to find the 17 year old
Police are looking to identify three key witnesses as part of an investigation to locate a missing teenager.
Ahmed Mukhtar was reported missing at the weekend and was last seen near to the Centre of Life in Newcastle at about 2.40am on Friday morning.
It is believed the 17-year-old had been dropped off in the area by a taxi after being picked up near his home in the west end of the city.
Enquiries to locate him are ongoing and both his family and police are growing increasingly concerned for his welfare.
Following the review of CCTV in the city, police are now looking to trace three potential key witnesses who could help with their investigation.
They were walking in the area of the Centre of Life around the same time Ahmed was dropped off by the taxi.
The three people are described as a male with his hood up, a person walking with a rucksack and a person walking their dog.
Detective Chief Inspector Angela Hufton, of Northumbria Police, said she knows the descriptions are vague, but believes the witnesses will know who they are.
She said: “We are looking to trace these three people who were walking through a specific area of Newcastle at around 2.40am.
“It was very quiet in the city and there would have been very few people around so we are confident these witnesses will know who they are.
“Ahmed’s family are very concerned for his welfare and we are doing everything we can to try and trace his movements.
“It is believed he could have been heading in the direction of the Redheugh Bridge and any information could assist our investigation.
“If you think you are one of these three witnesses, or think you know who they could be, then please contact us immediately.”
Ahmed is described as Asian, around 5ft 7in tall and black wavy hair. He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, black jumper, jeans and Timberland boots.
