A 42-year-old man will appear before court on Monday charged with the murder of a man who was found dead at an address in Kenton in Newcastle.

Emergency services discovered 36-year-old Anthony Nichol with fatal injuries, consistent with being caused by a bladed article, on Thursday night. He was taken to hospital but sadly died.

Northumbria Police said " Our thoughts remain with Tony’s family at this awful time & we'll continue to offer them any support they need.

"With a man due to appear in court tomorrow, please refrain from any speculation on social media or in the local community that could prejudice the live case.

"A significant investigation has been ongoing since Thursday into Tony's death. We'd like to thank the local community for their support & cooperation. It's hugely appreciated.

We'd also like to thank all those who have come forward in recent days to assist our investigation."

Andrew Somerville, 42, of Columbia Grange, Kenton, is due to appear before magistrates in Newcastle tomorrow.
