Man charged with threats to kill in Gateshead

A man has been charged following an incident in Gateshead on Tuesday that led to a significant police response.

At around 6.30pm on Tuesday evening police received a report that a man may have been in possession of a crossbow at an address in Avenue Road.

Officers responded and carried out a search of the address during which a weapon was found. A corden was put in place as a precaution due to the presence of a potential weapon.

A man was arrested by police later that evening and now he has been charged with a number of offences.

Mark Harvey, 38, of Avenue Road, Gateshead has been charged with threats to kill, false imprisonment and assault occasioning ASB.

No further action will be taken for possession of the weapon in question.

Harvey was due to appear before Bedlington Magistrates Court today
