Residents of Tyneside can expect to experience the ultimate blend of entertainment and indulgence when The Caper returns to the North East later this month.

One of the region’s fastest growing entertainment events, visitors should prepare themselves for an unforgettable gathering featuring renowned chefs, tantalising food vendors, vibrant bars, talented musicians, uproarious comedy, and even unique shopping opportunities.

The best part? All of this is conveniently housed under one roof, accessible with a single ticket.

After its triumphant debut, drawing in over 800 attendees, the social sensation known as Let's Caper @ Baltic is returning to the famous art gallery on Friday 21 July where guests will be enthralled by a fresh infusion of local performers and international influences, ranging from delectable cuisine from around the world to some spirited Dirty Dancing.

This monthly evening affair brings together a unique blend of live music, comedy, dance, and quirky pop-up food and drink experiences. Previously known as The Great Market Caper, the event has gracefully transitioned from its original location in Newcastle's Grainger Market to the esteemed Baltic art gallery, thus adopting its new identity.

Four bars, run by a whole new, bigger Caper team, will be spread throughout the venue and the musical backdrop will be provided by Durham rapper Merczz, who has clocked up 3.5m Spotify listens; Northumberland-based indie covers band The Reissues and - adding a chill-out vibe - North East jazz ensemble The Abbie Finn Trio and Spilt Milk. Returning by popular demand will be Andre Viana who will host free Dirty Dancing, freestyle Line Dancing and Samba lessons upstairs in the building before Pride DJ JNRMIXES takes over the floor with a selection of classics and anthems.

And the night's comedy will come courtesy of Gavin Webster, Jack Fox and Sam Mayes, with Elaine Robertson acting as host. Other attractions at the Caper, which will run from 7pm until midnight, will include 'live art' and stalls selling retro and 'mid-century' gifts while Baltic's cinema this time will host a musical theatre singalong.

Meanwhile, new on the foodie front, the Northumberland gluten-free wood fired pizza specialists Dou_h &Co will be on hand as will The Greekster, combining traditional Greek with mouth-watering urban street food. Meanwhile, the celebrated Layla's Kitchen heads back to Baltic along with a very special curry offering, making its Caper debut.

“As an adopted Geordie having spent nearly 25 years in the north east, it means an enormous amount to me to move to this iconic venue,” explains event organiser Sean Bullick.

“There is so much talent in the north east; chefs, bands, comedians, dancers, artists and young entrepreneurs, and to be able to showcase it all in a venue like this is a huge privilege.”

GASTRONOMIC DELIGHTS

When it comes to culinary delights, The Caper have assembled a stellar lineup of acclaimed chefs with each event helmed by a different culinary maestro leading a team of talented up-and-coming colleagues, resulting in an extraordinary showcase of the finest offerings from the North East region and beyond.

EXQUISITE BARS

Have no fear of going thirsty at The Caper! Boasting an impressive selection of four drinking spots and more staff to ensure smooth service, from the Riverside Bar, which opens onto a terrace overlooking the Tyne, to a pop-up cocktail bar on Level 5, where Caperers can unwind to the sounds of top-notch jazz while relishing breathtaking views, visitors’ libation needs will be impeccably met.

THRILLING LIVE MUSIC

Proudly celebrating the abundance of homegrown talent, The Caper will showcase the best performers from the local, regional, and national stages. Prepare to be captivated by awe-inspiring live music that will leave a lasting impression.

ENTHRALLING ENTERTAINMENT & RETAIL THERAPY

Beyond the realm of culinary delights, phenomenal bars, and exceptional music, each Caper event hosts a captivating array of additional attractions to engage guests' senses. Visitors should brace for some side-splitting laughter courtesy of top-notch comedians as well as being able to partake in dance lessons, indie films, and live art performances.

In addition to Baltic's famous shop, adorned with a remarkable selection of art-inspired goodies, visitors to The Caper will have the opportunity to explore vintage treasures and designer gems from an array of esteemed pop-up sellers.

So, for those who haven't been to a Caper before, why should they give it a try? “Because it’s such a great night out and everyone’s in it together,” adds Sean.

“It’s the sense of belonging, the willingness to do things differently, having fun and not taking ourselves too seriously.”
