A father and son in the North East have been spreading messages of compassion and kindness to homeless people sleeping rough this winter as they have handed them cash filled Christmas cards.

MD is an asylum seeker who came to the UK after becoming a victim of human trafficking and along with his five year old son Usman, they've been handing out Christmas cards, money and toiletries to those rough sleeping in Newcastle.

"The response was quite fantastic, as it involved that little man and trying to teach the compassions and being there for his community. It was a wonderful response", said MD.

"I've managed to save some money since last month, as I'm an asylum seeker and I get very limited money, but we have decided to put £5 each in those little lovely cards. We also had some body spray and other things we gave them as well.

"My son is committed to continuing it. Just to make some people happy and smile, share the compassions and love everyone."

MD and his son Usman were delivering cards last week, handing out 9 in total, as well as handing out toiletries when they ran out of their money they'd budgeted

MD has since been volunteering with the NHS to help with the vaccine rollout.
