The AJ Bell Great North Run has unveiled the line-up for this year's elite men's race, marking Sir Mo Farah's last competitive appearance. He will be joining an impressive roster of international athletes for this momentous occasion.

Four-time Olympic Champion, six-time World Champion and six-time winner of the Great North Run, Sir Mo will face strong competition in the form of Kenyan Geoffrey Kamworor. The 30-year-old, 3-time World Half Marathon Champion and two-time winner of the New York Marathon also bagged second place at the London Marathon earlier this year.

Looking ahead to the race Geoffrey Kamworor said:

“I’m really looking forward to taking on my first Great North Run in Newcastle, I’ve heard many good things about the event.

“Sir Mo Farah he has had such an incredible career, it’s exciting to be a part of his last ever race, but I’m obviously here to win and add my name to the list of champions.”

Further challenges will come in the form of Ethiopian Muktar Edris. Edris is a 2-time World Champion over 5000m and has a personal best of 58.40.

“I’ve raced Mo on the track but this is the first time we have met on the roads, I have great respect for him, after we raced in London 2017 World Championships, I named my son after him, I look forward to renewing our friendship and rivalry”

Elite athletes will line up alongside 60,000 other runners at the 42nd Great North Run on Sunday 10 September for the world’s biggest half marathon. The iconic course starts in Newcastle city centre and finishes 13.1 miles later in the coastal town of South Shields. Many runners will be taking part to support worthy causes, raising an estimated £25 million pounds for charity.

The event will be broadcast live on BBC One from 10am.
