Giant Organs Flash Mob In North Shields – Yes Really!

Published 13th Aug 2015

Don’t check the calendar, it’s not April Fools. Giant Organs ARE taking over Parks Leisure Centre this afternoon to help people learn more about organ donation.

It’s going to be fun and obviously hilarious… but ending on a very serious message. The Phoenix Detached Youth Project want to help reduce the number of people who are dying on the register while they’re waiting for a transplant.

Mike Burgess is from Phoenix Detached Youth Project in Meadowell. He said:

“What the main aim is to think about that that could be your organ. The organs have all got names like my proud lung, my lovely liver, my beautiful heart so it gives them a personality and people can actually think yes that could be my heart that I give away.”

“By doing the project, young people learn more about organ donation. We thought it’d be a fun idea to get organs built that people can climb into, run around it and do flash mob.”

Performing will be Scott Rutherford, 22, from North Shields. He has a heart transplant after his heart failed when he was just 15 years old.

He defied all odds five years later when he met his donor’s parents, John and Freda, by accident at a church service.
