ONE of the North East’s largest event spaces has got a new look following a £250,000 revamp, along with a brand new name.

The former Lancastrian Suite at Dunston, Gateshead has been renamed The Fed, a nod to the Federation Brewery which was previously based at the site.

And the large venue – which can take up to 1000 people for a standing event and up to 700 for a sit down dinner and dance – is already attracting a wide range of bookings, along with running its own programme of events.

The Fed was purchased last year by Ramside Estates, which also owns Ramside Hall Hotel, Golf and Spa, Hardwick Hall Hotel, Bowburn Hall Hotel and The award-winning Impeccable Pig at Sedgefield, with the company investing heavily in upgrading the site.

A state-of-the-art sound and light system, video walls and new floor have all been installed, with the venue having also been redecorated throughout.

John Adamson, owner of Ramside Estates, said the upgrade will ensure The Fed is one of the top spaces in the region.

“The Fed has always been a favourite venue because of the amount of guests it can accommodate,” he said.

“But now, with the investment, it will have even more appeal and we are very keen to be able to show it off.

“We have already had a huge amount of interest because there aren’t many stand alone venues of this size in the region, so The Fed really is a perfect location for everything from conferences to celebrations to award ceremonies to sporting events.”

The venue is also running a number of events including The House and Disco Festival on 1 May, Bingo Goes Bonkers Eurovision on 14 May and a Platinum Jubilee Party with afternoon tea on 2 June.

And it’s already attracted a range of big name performers, including Craig Charles on 7 August and Bad Manners on 11 December.
