A South Shields fitness trainer has caused outrage after he suggested the London and Tunisia terror attacks should inspire people to get fit.

Luke Harrison - who runs Total Fitness Tribe in Commercial Road - posted a video on his Facebook page asking people if the “London and Tunisia bombings” could “inspire you to get fit and healthy”.

In the video, the 29-year-old asks people if they could run for their lives if they had to.

Luke said the video was taken out of context and he did not mean to offend anyone deliberately.

He said: "It's not regarding to those scenarios, particularly that it would have happened any other way.

"I also referenced in the video if a woman was getting attacked, if you had to jump a wall, if you had to sprint away from a particular situation, would you be able to do it?

"I'm not saying in any way that these events would not have caused tragedy of these people were in shape but if this kind of story gets one person to take their health more seriously, it is worth saying in my eyes."

"The whole entire message was to actually help people. If people want to take it out of context, that is their choice.

"It's bonkers that it has went this way. Absolutely bonkers."

Luke has now deleted the video from his personal Facebook account but not from the Total Fitness Tribe – South Shields page.
