Essential public transport information for the Festive period.

There are no Metro services on Christmas Day or New Year’s Day.

On Christmas Eve, there's a Sunday service until about 6.00pm, then an hourly service (30 minutes between Pelaw and South Gosforth).

On Boxing Day, there's a revised Saturday service from about 8am - 8pm.

From Wednesday 27 until Friday 29 December Metro services will run to a weekday timetable, and to Saturday timetable on Saturday 30 December.

On New Year’s Eve, a Sunday service will run until about 9pm, then every 30 minutes (15 minutes between Pelaw and South Gosforth).

On Tuesday 2 January, Metro will run a normal weekday service.

Buses

There are no bus services on Christmas Day or New Year’s Day.

On Christmas Eve, Go North East, Stagecoach and Arriva services will run a Sunday service. Last departires will generally be between 6pm and 7pm.

On Boxing Day, Go North East and Stagecoach will run some daytime services, with additional services paid for by Nexus. More information is attached below and full timetables are here.

On Wednesday 27 to Saturday 30 December, Arriva, Go North East and Stagecoach will run a Saturday service.

On New Year’s Eve Go North East, Stagecoach and most Arriva services will run a Saturday service until about 6.00pm, then reduced services until 7.30pm, when most bus services will finish.

On Monday 2 January, Arriva, Go North East and Stagecoach will operate a Sunday service.

Shields Ferry

There are no Shields Ferry services on Christmas Day or New Year’s Day.

On Christmas Eve there will be a Sunday service, with the last ferry from South Shields at 6.15pm, and from North Shields at 6.30pm.

On Boxing Day ferry services will operate to a Sunday timetable.

The ferry will run to a normal timetable from Wednesday 27 to Saturday 30 December.

On New Year's Eve there will be a Sunday service, with the last ferry from South Shields at 6.15pm, and from North Shields at 6.30pm.

The ferry will run to a normal timetable on Tuesday 2 January.

Rail (Northern train services between Newcastle and Sunderland)

There are no Northern train services on Christmas Day, Boxing Day or New Year’s Day.

Northern will operate normal services on Christmas Eve, with trains finishing from 6pm; and on New Year’s Eve with trains finishing from 7pm.

It will run a normal weekday service from Wednesday 27 to Saturday 30 December, and Tuesday 2 January.

Nexus Customer Relations (0191 20 20 747)

Customer Relations will open for its normal hours (9.00am - 5.00pm) from Wednesday 27 to Friday 29 December and from Tuesday 3 January.

It will be closed, as normal, on weekends and bank holidays.
