Driver fighting for his life in hospital following a collision in North Seaton
A 71-year-old man suffered serious injuries on the A189 this morning
Police are appealing for witnesses after a driver was seriously injured in a collision in North Seaton.
At around 2am today (Wednesday 26th May), officers received a report that a Range Rover had been travelling north on the Spine Road A189 when, for reasons yet to be established, it collided with the central reservation just before the North Seaton roundabout.
Officers and emergency services attended and the driver, a 71-year-old male, was taken to hospital where he remains with life-threatening injuries.
An investigation into the incident has been launched and Sergeant Craig Bartle from Northumbria Police’s Motor Patrols department is now asking for any witnesses to come forward.
He said:
“This was a very serious collision which has left a man fighting for his life.
“Our investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision is ongoing and we are keen to hear from anyone who can help us build up a clear picture of the moments which led up to this incident.
“If you were travelling on the A189 Spine Road at that time and saw a Grey Range Rover travelling towards North Seaton, please get in touch with us. We are especially interested in hearing from any motorists that may have dash-cam footage.”
