Delivery of babies temporarily paused at South Tyneside district hospital

There'll be no births at South Tyneside District Hospital's maternity unit from today.

Health bosses say they've got extreme staffing pressures and shortages so ALL deliveries will be paused from 8am this morning.

The announcement follows the temporary suspension of high risk births at the hospital's Special Care Baby Unit last week.

It means 165 women who were booked in up until 15th January will have alternative arrangements mate.
