Campaign for new defibrillator by Dunston Staiths
The campaign was launched by a resident of the estate
A Gateshead community are rallying together - in the hopes of getting a defibrillator installed nearby.
It comes after a resident of the Staiths Estate, in Dunston, suffered a cardiac episode earlier this month.
He is now recovering, but his daughter tells us it made her realise there is no defibrillator close by, with the nearest ones at Dunston activity centre and by the Redheugh bridge.
She has now launched the fundraiser, to install one of the life-saving pieces of equipment near the iconic landmark, which sits along a popular walking and cycling route.
So far the fundraiser has raised almost £800, just over halfway to their target of £1500.
Organisers say there will be other fundraising events taking place soon as well.
