Police investigating an assault which left a man hospitalised with serious head injuries have released images of two people they would like to trace.

At about 3.20am on February 19, officers were alerted to a fight that happened on Norfolk Street in Sunderland.

Two men had left the Trilogy nightclub in the city centre and were involved in a verbal altercation which turned into a physical fight.

At that point, a third male intervened to try and break the pair up – before he was punched in the face by one of the men. The victim was knocked unconscious and suffered serious injuries after hitting his head off the pavement.

Both men initially involved in the altercation then left the scene with the victim lying unconscious in the street.

Enquiries are ongoing into the incident, and as part of the investigation, police have now released the images of two men who they would like to identify.

They were in the area at the time of the incident and could have information that can assist the investigation.

The men, or anyone who knows them, are asked to contact police via the ‘Tell Us Something’ page of the police website or by calling 101 quoting crime number 020487D/22.
