#Cancer - Just Let Them Be A Family
A Newcastle woman says she wants her brother-in-law to be able to spend time with his family while they can.
Lyndsey Latimer told Metro Radio her 9 year old neice has been diagnosed with Luekaemia, just a week after her mum was told she had terminal cancer.
A funding page has been set up to help the family so that dad Dean will be able to look after 3 girls and balance a full time job.
The family live in Bedford and dad Dean is orginally from the North East.
After losing his mum to cancer, Dean was told his partner Je-anne has incurable metastatic lung cancer which has now spread to her bones - just a week later, Je-Anne's 9 year old daughter Lia was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
A fundraising page was originally set up to help get Lia British citizenship as she was born in Zimbabwe. It would mean her dad could then become her legal guardian, so that she can stay in this country with her sisters.
That target has now been reached but Lyndsey says the family are desperate for some funds to be able to enjoy their time together.
She told Metro:
"You hear of these things happening and you never think it's going to happen to somebody so close to you. As a mum I couldn't even imagine thinking I might not be here to see my daughter get married...but I need to stay positive and we need to show this family how much the North East can get behind them."
