Police searching for a missing science teacher say they have found a body in the Hawthorne area

Darren Blyth disappeared from his family home in Trimdon Station on 14th April.

Formal identification has yet to take place, but police believe the body is that of the 55 year old.

Darren’s family has been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers from Durham Constabulary.

"We are saddened to report that a body has been found in the search for Darren Blyth.

Formal identification has yet to take place, but we believe it to be that of the 55-year-old.

Darren’s family have been informed and are being supported by Police.

The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

We would like to offer our sincere condolences to Darren’s family at this difficult time."

People have taken to social media to pay tribute, including Claire Blanckley on Facebook:

"Hearts are broken. RIP Darren. Thinking of family and close friends at this time. He s left a gap that can never be filled xxx"

Natalie Munro also took to the site:

"So sad to hear this. What a big miss he will be to all of his family and students. Was one of the nicest men you could hope to meet and have teach your children x"
