Birtley Community Centre targeted three times last month

Police are appealing for witnesses after a spate of vandalism attacks on a Tyneside community centre.

Officers are asking anyone with information to come forward after damage was caused to Birtley Community Centre, on Ravensworth Road.

On three separate occasions, overnight on Monday, February 6, Friday, February 10 and Friday, February 17, offenders have broken into the site and caused significant damage to the building.

This has included locks being cut, shutters being removed and windows, furniture, toilets and doors damaged.

A full investigation is ongoing into the damage and officers have warned anybody found responsible will be dealt with swiftly and appropriately.
