The 'Beast from the East' has arrived

The Beast from the East has dropped a massive amount of snow across the North East.

We say it every time but please take care on the roads we've already had a few problems this morning an overturned lorry eastbound on the A1231 Sunderland Highway.

Good news - Police have now cleared the scene on the A1231.

The A68 Rowley Bank is closed both ways due to an accident involving a lorry.

Good news on that one now:

We're down to one lane on the A19 Southbound between Wolviston and Portrack Interchange but further down the road it's fully reopened after an accident between the A172 and A684 earlier.

The advice from our emergency service teams is to please only dial 999 in a real emergency - they're going to be extra busy today
