Arrests made after warrants carried out in Gateshead
They took place on Friday
Nine addresses in Gateshead have been targeted by Northumbria Police officers with those properties believed to be associated with a conspiracy to supply Class A drugs.
Quantities of suspected cocaine and cannabis were seized, as well as ÂŁ6,000 in cash, bladed articles and a firearm.
Ten people aged between 42 and 15 have been arrested, with some arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to supply Class A drugs and others arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to supply Class B drugs.
All are currently in police custody.
Inspector Ree Gray, of Northumbria Police, said: “This operation demonstrates our continued dedication to tackling illegal drug supply and organised crime in the region.
“We are extremely pleased that we have been able to seize a haul of dangerous substances and cash as we work to ensure our communities are free from criminality and the harm these substances bring.
“Nobody wants this type of criminality happening on their doorstep and, as shown time and time again, it can lead to a range of other issues such as anti-social behaviour and violence.”
“I hope this goes to show that as a Force, we listen to the concerns of residents in our communities and take appropriate action.
“Our officers will continue to act on intelligence received, taking a proactive approach to keep people safe and fight organised crime right across the Force area.
“We will also continue to work with our partners to dismantle the criminal groups who try to profit from the sale and supply of illegal drugs, as well as ensuring those affected by drug addiction receive the necessary support they need.
