Appeal to trace a man following a serious assault in Newcastle

Police are searching for a suspect following the attack in the Bigg Market

Officers investigating an assault which knocked a man unconscious have released the images of a man they would like to trace.

Shortly after 9.15pm on Saturday October 30, police received a report of an unresponsive male in the Bigg Market, Newcastle.

Officers attended the scene near the Bigg Market chippy, where members of the public had been administering CPR before paramedics attended.

The man, aged 46, was taken to hospital having sustained a bleed on the brain and a serious head injury.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident and have already spoken with a number of witnesses and reviewed CCTV. They are now appealing to the public for their help.

As part of their enquiries, they have released the image of a man who was in the area at the time of the incident. Officers are asking the man pictured to come forward and assist with the investigation.
