Officers investigating a report of assault in Newcastle city centre have released the image of a man they would like to trace.

It was reported that on Saturday, January 21, a man had been in attendance at a private Lunar New Year event hosted at the Northumbria University Student Union, when he was chased by two other males in attendance.

One of the offenders has then reportedly struck the victim with a bottle, causing a laceration to his head.

The men have left the scene before emergency services attended.

An investigation into the assault is now underway, and officers have carried out a range of enquiries, including a review of CCTV.

They have today (Monday) issued the image of a man who was in the area at the time and might have information which can help.

Anyone who recognises the man or thinks they might have seen what happened, is asked to get in touch.
