Motorcyclist killed in A1 crash in Newcastle

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the collision near the A69 junction

Police are appealing for information about a fatal collision in the A1 in Newcastle last night (24th September).

Officers were called to reports of a collision on the Northbound side, just before the A69 junction, around 8.50pm.

The incident involved a dark coloured small hatchback car, a red motorcycle and a white range rover.

Sadly, the motorcyclist had died. Their family are being supported by specialist officers from Northumbria Police.

A 36-year-old man and 28-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

In a statement, Northumbria Police added: 'The dark coloured small hatchback which collided with the motorcycle initially stopped but then drove off from the scene in the direction of the West Road. It is believed that the vehicle sustained front end damage as a result of the collision.

'The A1 northbound remained closed until 5:40am this morning for scene investigation by Northumbria Police and diversions were put in place.

'Police are keen to speak to anyone who may have been travelling in the area at the time and witnessed the collision or witnessed a vehicle matching this description or has dashcam footage, which can be submitted via the Tell Us Something pages on the Northumbria Police website. Alternatively contact 101 quoting reference 1085 24/09/21.'
