7 year old fighting for life after car hits pedestrians in Newcastle

Police do not believe the incident to be terrorism-related

A 7 year old is in a critical condition after a crash in Newcastle on Sunday morning.

The collision took place on site at the rear of the Sports Centre and officers at the scene took immediate control while more officers and other emergency services were deployed.

Police enquiries continue as they try to establish the circumstances around the collision at Westgate Sports Centre.

A 42-year-old local woman arrested by police has now been released on conditional bail pending further investigation.

Of the six people injured during the incident four remain in hospital receiving treatment for various injuries.

Three children and three adults were initially taken to hospital following the collision and as it currently stands, one child and two adults have been discharged.

Extra officers remain out in our communities to reassure the public.

One 7-year-old child remains in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit in a critical condition.

The remaining injured are all now stable and remain in hospital at this time with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Specially trained family liaison officers are working with the families affected by the collision to ensure they have support throughout this difficult time.
