Katy Perry the Metro Radio Arena - 250618
Katy Perry isn’t a lady who does things by half measures – which she proved as she ended the UK leg of her Witness tour in Newcastle on Monday night at the Metro Radio Arena.
Armed with no less than 7 coaches for a production show that would rival Vegas’ finest, she was accompanied by flamingos, venus fly traps, TV heads on stilts and even the infamous Left Shark, who managed to make a special appearance on the piano for one night only.
Opening the show with the titular track from her new album, Witness, Katy wasted no time belting out her hits Dark Horse, Slave to the Rhythm and Teenage Dream. Just before she played Hot N Cold, she gave the crowd her top tips on the fine art of making the perfect builders brew!
“You don’t leave the bag in when you put the milk in. I’ve learnt how to use a kettle now, so I make a really good cuppa. This song Hot N Cold is dedicated to the lukewarm people who can’t make a proper cup of tea who fazed themselves out of my life.”
The recurring themes of space, glitter and the downright wacky stayed with the show the whole night, as she was joined on stage by giant lips, roses with eyes and even a lucky local lad “Craig” who got up on stage to challenge Katy to a basketball shoot out during Swish Swish (which he lost, by the way).
Katy isn’t one who is scared of heights as she took to the skies no less than 5 times, being flown around the arena on all manner of items from floating clocks, planets and even a giant Lego block!
The show was one to rival all others with every detail being perfectly executed and will have left memories with every audience member for years to come – especially the lucky ones who caught one of Katy’s inflatable eyes (yes, you heard me correctly).
