Night spots we wish still existed in the North East

If only these were still open!

We take a look back at the best North East night spots we wish still existed in Newcastle.

We’ve all been to at least one of these great nightclubs back in the day...

Baja - Once recognised as ‘the UK’s number one place to party’ during its height of popularity in the late 90’s and early noughties, Baja was certainly the place to go.

With its instantly recognisable great white shark logo and amazing views overlooking the river, this club was rammed with hard-core club revellers week in week out.

Sadly, this beach club which played its part in making Newcastle the ‘party capital’ closed its doors for the last time in 2008.

Legends - Although recognised as a rock and metal bar with its gothic-style interior, this quirky underground venue played host too many different types of musical genres. From metal to dance, to hip-hop, Legends certainly knew how to draw in the crowds.

Hugely popular with the youth of the North East was its Wednesday night student nights with cheap drink and a great mix of chart hits.

Tuxedo Princess 'the boat' - The Tuxedo Princess or you may know it better as ‘the boat’ shone brightly on the river Tyne’s water’s for almost 3 decades.

Opening in December 1983, The Tuxedo Princess moored a few yards away beneath the Tyne Bridge, ‘the boat’ helped make Newcastle a magnet for city party goers.

Annabel's At a time when the swinging sixties were fading out and disco tunes were pretty much in, Kayu Poostchi and Keith Gibbon opened Annabel’s on Walworth Way, Sunderland in 1968.

Many world famous music acts including David Bowie, The Who and Pink Floyd all enjoyed a drink or two over the years. It's move of location in the late 1980’s allowed Annabel’s to expand and upgrade for another generation of party goers before closing its doors in the early noughties.

Krash / Venue **- **Beginning with Krash when it catered towards the rock scene in the 90s, the club was then renamed Venue in the mid 00’s with the Krash name being kept for their popular Saturday rock night.

Venue was hugely popular with students of local universities due to its cheap drinks and lively nightlife. On a scale the club was small compared to other established nightclubs at the time, but this didn’t stop its large following before closing in summer 2013.

Which one do you miss the most?
