A man from South Tyneside has been found guilty of murder. On Friday, December 12, last year 64-year-old Eric Ruddy and 54-year-old Carol Ruddy of Bentinck Street in Elswick were found with life-threatening injuries. They were taken to the RVI where they were pronounced dead. Today, a jury has found 29-year-old Martin Ruddy from South Tyneside guilty of their murder. He will be sentenced tomorrow.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Fairlamb, who led the investigation, said:

"I'm pleased the jury has reached this verdict. Ruddy deliberately spun a web of lies telling police him and his parents had been attacked by intruders. Our enquiries established this was not the case and he himself had in fact killed his own parents. "I'd like to thank those invovled in the investigation including the assistance of witnesses in this case. "This has been an incredibly difficult time for the family of Eric and Carol Ruddy who must now come to terms with what has happened and they continue to have our utmost sympathies at this difficult time."
