Pair jailed over baby death
Two people have been jailed for 16 years following the death of a baby in Newcastle. Victoria Burke, 24, and Paul Nicholson, 20, both of Crigdon Hill of West Denton, have both been sentenced to eight years for causing the death of a child. Nicholson also received an additional three months for breaching his bail. Detective Chief Inspector Nicola Musgrove said: "This was a tragic incident. This has been a very difficult and upsetting investigation which has led to the conviction of two people. "Paul Nicholson and Victoria Burke have refused to accept any responsibility for their action which led to the death of a 16-week old baby. Nicholson has then tried to avoid his punishment and led police on a man hunt, which was completely foolish of him. They have been utterly dishonest and shown no remorse throughout the investigation. I welcome the outcome of the court today."
