Man charged with South Shields murder

Police investigating a murder in South Shields have charged a man with murder. At 11pm on Wednesday, May 4, police were called to reports of a disturbance inside the Prince Edward pub in Prince Edward Road in South Shields. Emergency services attended and 31-year-old Ronnie Howard (pictured) from South Shields was found unconscious. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead. Seven men were arrested in connection with the murder and five have now been charged with offences. Michael Anthony Wilson, aged 35, of Hylton Avenue in South Shields has been charged with murder, affray and assault. David Wood, 28, of Sunderland Road in South Shields; Anthony Kenrick, 33, of Centenary Avenue, South Shields and Paul John Haley, 26, of Ascot Gardens, South Shields have all been charged with affray and assault and John Hayes, 58, of Moor Lane, South Shields has been charged with affray. The men are due to appeal at South Tyneside Magistrates Court today. Two men aged 31 and 30 were released with no further action.
