#GNR - Metro Wristbands
Wristbands that double as Metro tickets have gone on sale to make life easier for people at this year’s Great North Run.
The wristbands avert the need to carry loose change or a paper Metro ticket.
And they can be bought in advance, which saves time on queuing at Metro ticket machines, which are extremely busy during the Great North Run.
Nexus, which owns and manages Metro, introduced the wristbands in 2014 to save entrants and spectators time and hassle.
Six different types of Metro ticket are available as Great North Run wristbands.
They are available to buy now from all Nexus Travel Shops and online from www.nexus.org.uk ahead of the race on Sunday September 13.
A limited number of wristbands are on sale and they are available on a first come, first served basis. They will also be available at the Great North Run Pasta Party on Saturday 12 September on the Gateshead Quayside.
A Great North Run Special Event DaySaver ticket is also available in advance from all Metro ticket machines by selecting the ‘other tickets’ option. It costs £4.60, the same as a normal Metro DaySaver price, but allows you to buy in advance or on the day and has ‘Great North Run 2015’ printed on the front of the ticket.
Director of Finance and Resources at Nexus, John Fenwick, said:
“The Great North Run wristbands are ideal for anyone taking part in the event.
For runners and spectators alike, they will save you having to queue at a ticket machine. If you’re a runner then you don’t need to worry where your Metro ticket is after the race.”
The Metro tickets that come as wristbands are: the Adult Single (£3.40), the Child Single (80p), the Adult DaySaver (£4.60), the Child DaySaver (£1.20), the Adult Weekend ticket (£9.20) and the Child Weekend ticket (£2.40).
