Appeal after teenager hit by car in Consett

Police are appealing for witnesses after a teenager was left seriously injured when she was struck by a vehicle on the outskirts of Consett.

It happened at 8.45pm on Friday, 15th April on the A692 Villa Real roundabout and involved a Citroen Berlingo, which was heading south.

The car went left/right and headed onto the A692 towards Stanley, as it did so it collided with a 16-year-old girl from Leadgate who was crossing the road.

She suffered a serious leg injury and was taken to the RVI where she remains.

The driver of the Citroen, a 29 year old man from Stanley was unhurt as was his 32 year old male passenger.

The road was closed for 2 hours while the collision investigation team examined the scene.
