Taxidermy cat handbag goes up for auction starting at $1,400
Would you buy this?
An auction site in New Zealand is getting a lot of attention after a handbag made from a dead cat was advertised. As well as being on the morbid side, the bag also came with a hefty price tag of $1,400 as a starting price!
The description on the post reads:
One-off glamour puss purse. A very stylish handbag... for the girl who has everything, a one-off purse that will grab attention wherever you go.
This handbag will last for years and years as long as it is looked after. The purse strap is easily changed to suit your taste...
This is not for the faint hearted... no animals were killed or hurt to create this piece.
So far, there have been over 150 questions posed to the seller on the site.
One user queried, "What do you mean when you say 'no animals were hurt to create this piece?'" To which the seller replied, "natural death".
Amongst the comments, some were disgusted with the creation, but others saw the fashion appeal. One user wrote, "Absolutely awesome!!! My daughter would love it!!! Go you!", and another thought the idea was a great one, saying, "Very impressive I hope you get top dollar for it. You could be on to something very profitable. Good luck."
Trade Me spokesman Logan Mudge said the fact that there was no cruelty involved was taken at 'face value'. He said, "It is certainly a statement bag and while it's not for me, we suspect there will be a buyer out there who is keen. This is a pretty unusual bag and we expect the auction will attract a lot of attention over the next few days." We're not convinced this puss belongs on the catwalk...
