Senior MP Toby Perkins is to debate in Parliament for an English National Anthem to be sung at major sporting events instead of God Save The Queen.

Mr Perkins, a qualified rugby coach has played in goal for the MPs' football team. "God save The Queen is the national Athem of Great Brtiain and Northern Ireland but on sporting occasions the union is broken up and we play as indavidual nations".

"Scotland and Wales have their own national athem and it seems right to me in this era of decolution that England should also have its own anthem." Toby Perkins said.

David Cameron has backed the idea and says he's favourite contender is the hym Jerusalem. It's also gone down very well with the general public as one survey found that 70% of people thought it was a good idea.

They are due to debate on Wednesday 13th January at 12.30pm.
