Game of Thrones has broken the record for the number of Emmy Awards won by a fictional series!

At Sunday’s ceremony, the show won in three categories, including outstanding drama series. The fantasy series has now won a whopping 38 Emmys, beating Frasier’s previous record of 37.

Other British winners at yesterday’s ceremony included Dame Maggie Smith, who won outstanding supporting actress in a drama series for her portrayal of Violet Crawley in Downton Abbey.

However, Dame Maggie has never actually attended the Emmys in person! Host Jimmy Kimmel joked, “We’re not mailing this to her. Maggie, if you want this, it will be in the lost and found!”

Sherlock was also named best made for TV movie for its special episode The Abominable Bride.

Game of Thrones’ 38 Emmys include the nine trophies that the series won at last weekend’s Creative Arts Emmys. The show is now the most decorated drama series in Emmy Awards’ history!
